BIIB076 Moves into Phase 1 for Alzheimer's Disease
To live to 100 is no common feature. Therefore, German photographer Karsten Thormaehlen wanted to photograph centenarians, and started a well-known project of photographing over 40 people who have achieved a triple digit life. His interest led to the creation of a beautiful portrait series that became an award-winning exhibition «Jahrhundertmensch», as well as a book. «They have witnessed almost a whole, eventful 20th Century, including two world wars, economic crises, destruction, construction, division and reunification – and they have survived.» says Karsten Thormaehlen. His close-ups of the «oldest of old» faces reveal wisdom, courage, confidence, joy and personality.
